Complete the Setup Wizard

The wizard asks four things:

  • Who: Your name, date of birth, planned retirement age, and whether you have a partner.
  • Financial Position: Your annual income, cash savings, and investment balance.
  • Retirement Goals: How much you want to spend annually in retirement, and what age you want the plan to cover through.
  • Review: Check the summary and create your plan.

That's it. The engine immediately runs a deterministic projection and Monte Carlo simulation, and you land on your personalised dashboard.

3

Explore Your Dashboard

Your dashboard shows four key metrics at a glance:

  • Success Probability — percentage of Monte Carlo scenarios where your money lasts.
  • First Shortfall — the earliest month you run out of cash in any scenario.
  • Lowest Liquid Net Worth — the deepest trough across all simulations.
  • Projected Net Worth — your estimated position at target age.

Below the metrics is your runway chart showing the deterministic trajectory with Monte Carlo confidence bands.

4

Refine Your Plan

The wizard captures the basics. To make your plan truly accurate, switch to the Plan tab and add detail:

  • Add your KiwiSaver balance and contribution rate.
  • Add your property value and mortgage details.
  • Schedule life events — selling a house, receiving an inheritance, buying a car.
  • Tune assumptions — expected returns, inflation rate, drawdown strategy.
  • Configure your expense lifecycle — how spending changes as you age, care cost overlays.

Every change triggers an instant re-simulation. You see the impact on your success rate and runway in real time.

5

Test Resilience Scenarios

Switch to the Resilience Sandbox tab. Four sliders let you instantly test:

  • Spending more or less in retirement.
  • Delaying retirement by up to 4 years.
  • Better or worse investment returns.
  • A one-off cash injection (inheritance, redundancy, etc).

Delta cards show exactly how each change affects your success rate, projected net worth, and lowest liquid point compared to your baseline.

6

Save, Compare, and Evolve

As your life changes, your plan should too.

  • Save versions — checkpoint your plan with a title and reason. Restore any version later.
  • Create multiple plans — conservative vs optimistic, with or without selling the house.
  • Compare plans — side-by-side metrics and trajectory overlays on the Plans tab.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. RetireMe is an educational planning tool, not a licensed financial adviser. It helps you model scenarios and understand your financial position, but it does not provide personalised financial advice. We strongly recommend consulting a qualified financial adviser before making significant financial decisions.

Yes. All your financial data is stored locally on your device — it is never sent to our servers. We only store your Google account email for authentication. RetireMe cannot see, access, or share your financial information. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.

RetireMe is free to start. The core planner — including the setup wizard, dashboard, Monte Carlo simulation, and plan editor — is available at no cost.

Premium features (multiple plans, version history, advanced scenarios, and more) are available via a simple subscription. See our plans & pricing for details.

Yes. The setup wizard asks whether you have a partner. If you do, the plan models both of your incomes, assets, NZ Super entitlements, and expenses together as a household — giving you a combined view of your retirement runway.

Spreadsheets are powerful, but they can't easily run Monte Carlo simulations, model NZ tax brackets and KiwiSaver rules, or let you drag a slider to see the impact of retiring two years later. RetireMe automates all of this with a month-by-month simulation engine that recalculates instantly as you change any input.

You also get version history, plan comparison, and expense lifecycle modelling — things that would take significant effort to build and maintain in a spreadsheet.

Monte Carlo simulation doesn't predict the future — it shows you the range of possible outcomes based on your assumptions. RetireMe runs hundreds of randomised scenarios varying investment returns and inflation, then reports the percentage of scenarios where your money lasts.

The more accurate your inputs (assets, income, expenses, growth assumptions), the more useful the results. Think of it as a stress test, not a crystal ball.
